CHANDIGARH: The Shiromani Akali Dal declared today that the statewide agitation against Kejriwal regime’s “Land Grabbing Scheme” will be further intensified and it will continue until the government completely withdraws its fraud with the farmers and other land owners.
A Resolution to this effect was passed at a meeting of the Core Committee of the party here this afternoon. The resolution declared, among other things, that the next Protest Dharna against land grabbing scheme will be held at Bathinda on August 4 and Patiala on August 11 to be followed by similar protest dharnas at all other district headquarters.
These decisions were taken and the outline of the statewide opposition to the government’s land loot was discussed at meetings of the party district Jathedars as well as of the Working Committee earlier in the forenoon. All three meetings were presided over by the party president S Sukhbir Singh Badal.
The Core Committee meeting began by observing a two-minute silence and prayers as a mark of respect and condolence over the tragic passing away of S. Gurvinder Singh, brother in law of Singh Sahib Kuldeep Singh Gargajj. Badal earlier spoke to Jathedar Sahib over the phone to convey his own and the party’s heartfelt condolences and pray for peace to the departed soul.
The meeting also paid glowing tributes to the departed Punjabi marathon icon, Sardar Fauja Singh.
Earlier in the morning, Mr Badal flagged off the party’s statewide campaign, “Proud to be Akali” (Mainu Maan Akali Hon Te) amidst shouting of traditional Jaikaaras (Panthic slogans) by releasing and pasting stickers on the workers’ vehicles and also releasing flags to be hoisted on homes of all workers and supporters of the party.
The meeting also outlined an elaborate programme in connection with the sacred religious and historical events including the anniversary of the martyrdom of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib and the historic Rakhar Punia conference at Baba Bakala Sahib on August 9.
The SAD will observe the 40th martyrdom anniversary of its late president and messiah of peace and communal harmony, Shaheed Sant Harchand Singh Ji Longowal on August 20. The party will also hold its annual conference at Issru in honour of Shaheed Karnail Singh Issru ji on August 15.
