Prime Minister's announcement may have come out of respect, but not according to Sikh tradition
AMRITSAR: On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Dasam Patshah Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi declared December 26 as 'Veer Bal Divas' dedicated to the martyrdom of Baba Jorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji, the youngest sons of Dasam Patshah Ji.

Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, President, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), said, "We appreciate the sentiments of the Prime Minister.

He said that in view of Sikh history, doctrines and traditions, the incomparable sacrifices of the sons of the Tenth Patshah Ji were like those of the great warriors.

Advocate Dhami said that the criterion for giving national recognition to any ideology in the Sikh world is our Sikh history, Gurbani, Sikh doctrine and beliefs.

He said that in connection with the recognition of the day of martyrdom of the young princes as 'Veer Bal Diwas' by the Prime Minister of the country Narendra Modi, we appeal to the Akal Takht to take the lead on this.

The SGPC President said that since Panthic traditions, beliefs and Sikh concerns were so unique and incomparable, any decision related to them should be taken on the orders of the Akal Takht.

He said that paying homage to Guru Sahib on the occasion of the inauguration of the Prime Minister may have arisen out of a sense of reverence but the Panth cannot be considered as acceptable.
