CHANDIGARH: The residents of village Teur in Kharar assembly constituency in Punjab are up in arms against local MLA and a former minister and Punjabi singer Anmol Gagan Mann for alleged mass corruption and threatening the villagers who are vocal against her acts of misdeeds.
Anmol Gagan Mann who was once close to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is in the eye of storm following certain residents of Teur village accused her for amassing vast wealth by illgal means during here tenure as minister. She was elected from Kharar in the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections and served as a minister in the Bhagwant Mann-led cabinet.
She held the portfolios of tourism and culture, investment promotion, labour, and hospitality before being dropped in the cabinet reshuffle in September 2024 for reasons best known to AAP leadership.
The Teur residents had alleged that she had purchased 70 acres of land and she collected money from Tehsildars in Majri and Kharar. A villagers who video went viral claimed that her father and brother were assigned the duty to collect money for deeds of land registration. A villager alleged that Tehsildar confessed that they pay Rs.5000 per registry to the MLA. He also alleged that for Inteqal of land deed which earlier cost them Rs.2000, Rs.10000 was charged by the Patwari.
The residents of the village held a assembly yesterday after police raided the resident of one of the village elder who levelled allegations against Anmol Gagan Mann. The AAP leaders of the area are threatening the other villagers who dared to speak against the MLA. The villager sarpanch said that instead of holding inquiry against the MLA, police is harassing the villagers. They said that if harassment is not stopped, they will launch an agitation against the MLA.
Anmol Gagan Mann had recently resigned from her seat but the party president Aman Arora persuaded her to withdraw the resignation probably fearing a bye-election from this seat.
The social media is flooded with the past statements of Anmol Gagan Mann when before coming to power she promised instant MSP on all crops and making Kharar a model city. However the local residents alleged that they have never seen such a mess in the constituency. The roads are full of pits and not worthy to drive and even walk.
