Resolution demanding release of imprisoned Sikhs passed during seminar in Delhi on 350th martyrdom anniversary

AMRITSAR: During a grand seminar organized by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee in Delhi to mark the 350th anniversary of the martyrdom of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, a resolution was presented strongly demanding the release of the imprisoned Sikhs, which was supported by the audience with a show of hands and cheers.

Sharing his views, Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj said that the special seminar in Delhi dedicated to the 350th martyrdom centenary is a commendable initiative.

He said that Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji gave his martyrdom to protect the Tilak and Janju of the oppressed party of that time and gave a unique message of protection of religious freedom and human rights, which is a source of inspiration for all humanity. But today, after 350 years, when we are remembering the martyrdom of Guru Sahib in this very land of Delhi where Guru Sahib Ji was martyred, it is sad that our captive Singhs are still imprisoned in Tihar, Patiala and Burail jails. In view of human rights, it is the responsibility of the central government to pay respect to Guru Sahib by releasing the captive Singhs.

Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib also criticized the interference of governments in the religious affairs and institutions of Sikhs.

In this seminar organized on the topic 'Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji Dharam Di Chadar' at the Stein Auditorium of India Habitat Center, SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, Executive Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj, Shiromani Akali Dal President S. KC Singh, Prof. Himadri Banerjee, Dr. Paramveer Singh, Prof. Raj Kumar Hans, Prof. Dharam Singh and Dr. Harinder Singh read their research-rich papers.

Speaking on the occasion, SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said that Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji sacrificed his life to protect the religion of others, which is exemplary in the history of the world. He said that due to this sacrifice of Guru Sahib, the culture of India is alive. The flag of the country on the Red Fort in Delhi is due to the sacrifice of the Sikh Gurus.

On this occasion, Shiromani Akali Dal President S. Sukhbir Singh Badal said that the history of the Sikh community is full of unparalleled sacrifices, in which the martyrdom of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji is important. He said that if Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji had not sacrificed himself, the situation of the country would have been different. S.
