PHAGWARA: Member of Parliament Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal has urged the Union Government to reconsider the scheduled date for the presentation of the Union Budget 2026–27, citing the observance of Sant Shiromani Guru Ravidas Maharaj’s birth anniversary on the same day. In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Dr. Chabbewal requested that the Budget presentation, currently fixed for February 1, 2026, be rescheduled to ensure due respect to the religious sentiments of millions of devotees across the country.
In his communication, Dr. Chabbewal highlighted that Guru Ravidas Jayanti is celebrated with deep reverence and large public participation, particularly in states such as Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Delhi. On this occasion, devotees organize religious processions, Nagar Kirtans, and community langars, drawing massive gatherings. He emphasized that the day holds profound spiritual and social significance for followers of Guru Ravidas Maharaj, whose teachings continue to inspire equality, social harmony, and human dignity.
The MP noted that while the Union Budget is a crucial national event impacting every section of society, a minor adjustment of one or two days in its presentation would not diminish its importance or effectiveness. Instead, such a step would allow citizens to observe the sacred occasion with full devotion while also engaging meaningfully with the country’s most important financial exercise. According to him, balancing administrative priorities with cultural and religious sensitivities reflects the spirit of inclusive governance.
