PHAGWARA: In a bid to maintain law and order, the Punjab government has imposed a complete ban on the public display of weapons within the district of Kapurthala. The directive was issued by District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal, under the powers granted by Section 163 of the Punjab Civil Services Rules, 2023.

The ban extends not only to public gatherings and events but also applies to social media platforms, where the display or promotion of weapons will also be prohibited. This move aims to curb the glorification of violence, including through songs that promote aggression or the display of firearms.

The restrictions also cover public assemblies, religious places, weddings, parties, and other social functions, where carrying or displaying weapons will be strictly prohibited. Additionally, any hate speech targeting specific communities will be subject to legal action.

Senior Police Captain and the district's Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) have been designated as responsible for ensuring the enforcement of these orders.

The District Magistrate has made it clear that violators of the order will face legal consequences, with law enforcement tasked with taking necessary action.

These measures will remain in force until October 21, to ensure peace and harmony in the district.
