PHAGWARA: Relief and rescue operations in the flood-affected areas of Sultanpur Lodhi and Dhilwan are continuing uninterrupted despite persistent rainfall caused by the swelling waters of the Beas river.
Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal said that even amid heavy downpour over the past two days, relief teams have been working with dedication to ensure that essential aid reaches those in need. On Friday, teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) evacuated the entire family of Jagat Singh from Baupur village, where they had been stranded by floodwaters.
The Deputy Commissioner added that officials have been instructed to strengthen the delivery of essential supplies, particularly food grains, medicines to prevent the outbreak of diseases, and silage for livestock. He emphasized that animal health remains a priority during the rainy season, with veterinary teams reaching flood-affected residents by boats to examine and treat their cattle.
Appealing to residents to remain vigilant and not believe in rumors, Panchal urged people to immediately contact the control rooms in case of any emergency. District-level helpline numbers have been set up at 01822-231990, while the Sultanpur Lodhi subdivision control room can be reached at 01828-222169, and the Bhulath subdivision helpline at 01822-271829.
