JALANDHAR: The North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) has expressed deep shock and condemnation over the recent remarks made by an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) spokesperson who compared Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal with the revered Sikh Gurus.
NAPA Executive Director Satnam Singh Chahal said that such comparisons are not only highly disrespectful but also amount to hurting the religious sentiments of millions of Sikhs across the globe. The Sikh Gurus are spiritual and divine figures whose lives and sacrifices cannot be equated with any political leader.
“Our Gurus gave the supreme sacrifice for justice, equality, and truth. Comparing them with any political personality is an insult to Sikh history and traditions. We strongly condemn this irresponsible statement and demand an unconditional public apology from the concerned spokesperson and the Aam Aadmi Party leadership, ” Chahal stated.
NAPA further urged all political parties in India to refrain from exploiting Sikh religious symbols, imagery, or sacred figures for political gains. The organization reminded that Sikhs have always resisted any attempts by political entities to undermine or distort their faith.
The association has also appealed to the Akal Takht Sahib and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to take strict notice of this matter and ensure that no political group is allowed to misuse Sikh religious sentiments in the future.
“The Sikh Panth has only one guiding light—our Gurus and Guru Granth Sahib. No worldly politician, however powerful, can ever be compared to them, ” Chahal emphasized.
NAPA concluded by warning that if such derogatory remarks are repeated, it will mobilize the diaspora to launch a global awareness campaign against the political exploitation of Sikhism.
