SANGRUR: Powercom engineers at Sangrur urge Government to reinstate chief engineer, Ropar thermal , Director Generation and not to sell PSPCL properties otherwise they will be forced into the path of engineers struggle and creating unsatisfactory environment in the department.

Engineers are perturbed over the manner in which Powercom management suspended Chief Engineer Ropar thermal plan and the removal of Director Generation based on baseless and non- technical facts . Engineers also strongly opposed the Electricity Amendment Bill 2025 and the attempt to sell the power sector property said Pankaj Garg, Regional Secretary after a protest meeting on Monday evening.

The allegations made on both engineers are a wrong comparison of thermal plants based on old subcritical technology with the latest super-critical technique of private thermal plants. It has been baselessly accused of increasing the fuel cost (coal cost) from Rs 0.75 to Rs 1.25 per unit in government thermal plants. The merit order dispatch (MOD) for operating the thermal plant during the month of September-2025, issued by the PSPCL . According to it, the cost of generating electricity for the private thermal plant Talwandi Sabo based on new technology was Rs 3.77 per unit and Rs 3.81 per unit respectively at government thermal plants at Goindwal Sahib and Ropar thermal.

It seems that the government wants to sell the lands of Powercom and Transco to Corporates and action against engineers on flimsy grounds is not without a hidden agenda and to just create an atmosphere of fear and doubt among engineers.

The government is also destroying the autonomy of Powercom and controlling the authority of the Board of Directors to take decisions on the works of the department, causing unnecessary political interference in technical works and procurement processes and this will affect the functionality of PSPCL.
