CHANDIGARH: Senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Leader of Opposition Harpal Singh Cheema, reacting sharply to the convening of a one-day monsoon session of Punjab Vidhan Sabha, has termed it as a clever ploy on the part of the government to run away from facing the heat of the oppositions over the core issues and concerns.
In a statement issued from party headquarters,
Harpal Singh Cheema said that Punjab was facing innumerable issues concerns, including the corona epidemic and mafia rule, et al, which needed to be addressed by the Amarinder Singh government, adding the ‘Imperial’ government was trying to run away from facing questions from the Opposition (Aam Aadmi Party) on the floor of the House.
Cheema on the occasion said, the core issues and concerns that needed discussion, included the liquor mafia, the looming scare of corona epidemic, indiscriminate ‘loot’ by various mafias, including sand mafia, as well as the deadly anti-agriculture ordinances pushed in by the union government, Power Amendment Act 2020, the Ahluwalia Committee's disastrous recommendations.
He said the Aam Aadmi Party had been demanding live telecast of the proceedings of the session, but the Amarinder Singh government had played a cruel joke with the people, besides making mockery of the democracy, by reducing the assembly session to one-day only.
Cheema asked Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and Speaker Rana KP Singh to reconsider the decision and hold a session for at least 15 so that the issues concerning Punjab and its people could be discussed threadbare.
