CHANDIGARH: Taking a dig at the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government's Nasha Mukti Yatra, the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Punjab Assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, on Friday said that the AAP government's Yudh Nashian Virudh (War against Drugs) campaign has already turned out to be a fiasco and has come up with a new theatric.
"The Majitha Hooch Tragedy that has claimed 27 lives so far has unmasked the AAP government's hollow promise to make Punjab a drug-free state. The Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant and AAP's National Convener Arvind Kejriwal are launching the Nasha Mukti Yatra from Nawanshahr. However, both of the AAP leaders have failed awfully to make Punjab a drug-free state within the deadlines they decided. Why should the people of Punjab trust them now, " Bajwa stated.
Senior Congress Leader Bajwa said that Kejriwal had vowed to end the drug menace in Punjab within three to four months of forming the government. Later on, CM Mann committed to making Punjab a drug-free state by the Independence Day of 2024. Have they eradicated the drug menace in Punjab? The answer is well-known to every Punjabi. Meanwhile, the officiating Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav has come up with another deadline to end the drug menace in Punjab.
"The higher leadership of the AAP has not yet refuted the allegation leveled by the party's own MLA from Amritsar North, Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh. He alleged that the mafia-police nexus has a free run under this government. The liquor mafia has been made a part of the government and now running the show, " Bajwa added.
Bajwa said that instead of working on the ground, the AAP government believes in PR exercises by launching campaigns with fancy names. The Nasha Mukti Yatra has apparently been introduced to gain media limelight.
