Khaira cites Delhi Vidhan Sabha Bulletin, Forensic Report to attack AAP and former Delhi CM Atishi

PHAGWARA: Senior Congress leader and Bholath MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira on Saturday cited an official bulletin issued by the Speaker of the Delhi Vidhan Sabha along with a referenced forensic laboratory report to allege that AAP’s Leader of Opposition,  Atishi Marlena, made derogatory remarks against Sikh Gurus during proceedings of the House. Describing the development as serious and unprecedented,  Khaira said the matter had moved beyond political dispute and now rested on official legislative records.

According to Khaira, the bulletin dated January 6, 2026, records that the Presiding Officer received a forensic report confirming the authenticity of the remarks attributed to Atishi. He said this documentation, issued under the authority of the Speaker, constituted formal verification and not merely an opposition claim. Khaira maintained that such confirmation warranted accountability at both legal and political levels.

Reacting to Atishi’s continued silence since the controversy erupted,  Khaira said her failure to address public concerns or issue an apology had intensified anger among Sikhs in Punjab and abroad. He alleged that avoiding public engagement had further eroded moral responsibility in the matter and deepened public mistrust.

Khaira said the Congress Party was demanding the registration of a criminal case against Atishi for allegedly hurting religious sentiments, along with an unconditional public apology.

Additionally,  Khaira demanded the withdrawal of an FIR registered by the Punjab Police in Jalandhar against opposition leaders, including himself, for sharing material related to the controversy. He argued that the same material now stood authenticated by official records of the Delhi Vidhan Sabha, rendering the police action unwarranted and politically motivated.
