KAPURTHALA: A young man from Rapurpeer Baksh village, near Bhulath in Punjab, has tragically died under suspicious circumstances in Winnipeg, Canada. The deceased, identified as Davinder Singh, was found dead in a local lake, sending shockwaves through his family and community back home.

Davinder, son of the late Sukhjinder Singh, had moved to Canada approximately eight years ago on a student visa. While pursuing his education, he also worked part-time to support himself and his family in India. With the passing of his father nearly two decades ago, Davinder had become the sole breadwinner for his household, which consists of his mother, Gurmeet Kaur, and his grandmother.

According to family sources, Gurmeet Kaur last spoke to her son on July 16. He informed her that he was preparing to go to work and reassured her that everything was fine. However, the family received a devastating phone call in the early hours of July 22 informing them of his death. Canadian authorities later confirmed that Davinder’s body had been recovered from a lake in Winnipeg.

Speaking to local media, his mother expressed deep concern over the suspicious nature of his death. “My son was healthy, happy, and responsible. We believe this is not a simple drowning. He was murdered and his body dumped into the lake, ” she alleged. The family is now calling for a thorough and transparent investigation by Canadian authorities.

Relatives and members of the local community, who remember Davinder as a kind and hard-working Gursikh youth, have also demanded justice. “He was a good boy from a respectable family. We want the truth behind his death to come out, ” said a family friend.

The family has urged both the Government of India and the Indian Consulate in Canada to intervene and ensure that a fair and impartial investigation is conducted.

Meanwhile, community organizations in Canada and Punjab are rallying in support of the family, and a fundraising campaign is reportedly being planned to assist with legal expenses and the repatriation of Davinder’s remains, if needed.
