CHANDIGARH: Strongly condemning the shocking incident reported from Barnala, Bharatiya Janata Party Punjab State President Ashwani Sharma today raised serious concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. “Is Punjab being pushed towards becoming a ‘Police State’, where the police are being misused not for public safety but for intimidation and coercion?” Sharma questioned. He referred to the allegations made by Jaswinder Kaur and Harpreet Singh of village Kale Ke, who have accused SHO Lakhvir Singh of illegal assault and filing a false case.
Sharma stated, “The allegations that a police officer colluded with a private individual for forcible possession of the land and then resorted to brutal force when the family resisted are extremely disturbing. The reported assault on a woman and inhuman treatment of a citizen reflect a complete collapse of accountability.” He emphasized that such incidents are not isolated but indicative of a deeper administrative failure.
He further added, “When those entrusted with upholding the law themselves face serious accusations of misuse of power, where can a common citizen go for justice? This incident exposes the growing erosion of public trust in governance and policing.”
Demanding immediate action, Sharma said, “Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann must intervene without delay and ensure a fair and impartial probe. Strict action must be taken against the accused SHO.”
BJP Punjab strongly condemns this incident and reiterates its commitment to stand firmly against any injustice faced by the people of Punjab.
