PATIALA: Former Minister Sarvagi S. Lal (84), who passed away yesterday, was given a tearful farewell today. His last rites were performed at Bir Ji's crematorium on Rajpura Road here with full religious rites and government honours. His pyre was lit by his son and former MLA Rajinder Singh.
On this occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development) Navreet Kaur Sekhon, on behalf of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, paid tribute by placing wreaths on the deceased. While on behalf of the Punjab government, MLA Patiala Urban Ajitpal Singh Kohli and MLA Nabha Gurdev Singh Dev Mann, along with Sanaur constituency in-charge and former chairman Ranjodh Singh Hadana, on behalf of the Aam Aadmi Party, placed wreaths and offered floral tributes. On this occasion, a contingent of Patiala Police played a mournful tune and the jawans laid down their weapons and gave a guard of honour and fired a salute.
Meanwhile, Lok Sabha member Dr. Dharamvir Gandhi, Municipal Corporation Mayor Kundan Gogia, District Planning Committee Chairman Tejinder Mehta, Conveyor Vice Chairman Inderjit Singh Sandhu, Swami Brahmanand Giri, Giani Sukhdev Singh from Hindu Takht, a large number of current and former MPs, former ministers, former and current MLAs and leaders of other parties and Patiala councilors also paid their respects by placing floral garlands on the deceased.
According to family sources, the floral wreath-picking ceremony of late S. Lal Singh will be held on Mangalwalar, March 31 at 8 am at Bir Ji's crematorium and the last prayer and tribute ceremony will be held on Friday, April 10 from 12.30 pm to 2 pm at the historic Gurdwara Patshahi 9th Sri Moti Bagh Sahib.
On the occasion of the cremation of former minister Lal Singh, various political, social and religious personalities, residents of Patiala city and a large number of their relatives and other important personalities paid floral tributes to the late leader.
