AMRITSAR: Reacting sharply to the Punjab government's announcement of an SIT in a case related to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said that interference by governments in the internal administrative matters of religion and religious institutions is not only unnecessary but also against Sikh traditions and a direct challenge to Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

He said that it is in no way acceptable to exploit religious matters for political gain.

Advocate Dhami clarified that an inquiry committee had already been constituted by Sri Akal Takht Sahib on this matter related to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, which investigated with full seriousness and responsibility. After this investigation, as per the orders issued by the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, departmental action has been taken by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee against the accused employees.

He stressed that no concession was made to anyone in this matter and action has been taken keeping in mind all the points raised during the investigation.

The SGPC President said that it has become clear in the report of the inquiry committee that this matter is related to the misappropriation of money by some employees.

He said that the Punjab government deliberately giving it a political colour is tantamount to playing with Sikh sentiments, which is not right in any way. By doing this, the government is challenging the supremacy of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

Advocate Dhami alleged that the present government of Punjab is hurting the sentiments of Sikhs to fulfill its political interests, which is not good for the peace and welfare of the state.
