KAITHAL: Five persons were killed and two injured in a road accident near Kyodak village about 10 km from Kaithal Town here today. The injured have been admitted to the hospital for treatment. All the deceased are said to be residents of Ramayana in Faridkot, Punjab.
The dead include Narendra Kumar 62 years, Asli, 57 years, Kaku Singh 67 years and Makhan Singh 60 years Tara Singh 65 years. Four were killed on the spot and Tara Singh later died in a private hospital during treatment. The injured include Kulwant Singh and Mandar Singh.
According to the information, a pickup van going towards Pehowa near village Kyodak was hit by a bus number HR 39 GV-7050 of Haryana Roadways Hisar Depot. The collision was so strong that the pickup vehicle was badly damaged and overturned on one side of the road. Four persons in the van died on the spot in the accident while one died in the hospital. Two others were seriously injured in the accident.
As per information all were going to attend a religious program at Gurdwara Sahib in Pehowa. On receiving the information, the villagers reached the spot and informed the police about the incident. Sadar police station and rescue team had to cut the van and took out the trapped victims with the help of crane and gas cutters. The bodies of the dead have been sent to the Civil Hospital for post -mortem while the injured were admitted to a private hospital in Kaithal for treatment.
According to DSP Sushil Prakash, the passengers in the bus have suffered minor injuries in the accident but all are safe. The cause of the accident is being investigated. Initial investigation suggest that negligence of drivers was the reason for this mishap.Local residents said that the place where this accident happened, often high speed vehicles pass and there have been many accidents before. The villagers demanded from the administration that a speed breaker or traffic control should be arranged here so that such accidents can be stopped in future.
