Fields in Baupur Mand Area Restored for Cultivation

Under Sant Seechewal’s Leadership, Kar Sewa Brings Prosperity Back to Farmers’ Lives

PHAGWARAUnder the leadership of environmentalist and Rajya Sabha member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, nearly 50 fields belonging to about 10 farmers in the Baupur Mand area have once again become cultivable. This development has sparked a new ray of hope among the local farming community. With the cooperation of local residents and the sangat, the kar sewa to level and restore the damaged fields is continuing uninterrupted.

Sharing the details, Sant Seechewal said that the devastating floods in August had caused severe destruction across this region. Thousands of acres of crops were completely ruined, and 4 to 5 feet of silt and mud had accumulated in many fields. In such circumstances, farmers had lost all hope of sowing their crops this season.

On 22 September, Sant Seechewal initiated kar sewa in Baupur and nearby villages, during which the deposited mud was removed and the fields were levelled. Sangat from Punjab as well as Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and several other states actively participated in the service. Punjabis living abroad also contributed generously.

Sant Seechewal informed that now that the fields have been restored and levelled, wheat sowing will begin very soon. The mud removed from the fields is being used to further raise and strengthen the embankments to protect the area from such destruction in the future.

On this occasion, the farmers of the area expressed their gratitude to Sant Seechewal, saying that he has appeared as a Messiah for them. They said that he has been supporting the flood-affected farmers from the very first day. The farmers added that without Sant Seechewal’s assistance, they would not have been able to prepare their fields for cultivation again.
