FlyAmritsar Initiative welcomes the move; travelers express happiness

AMRITSAR: International passengers at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport, Amritsar can now skip long queues with the launch of Fast Track Immigration under the Trusted Traveller Program (FTI–TTP). The FlyAmritsar Initiative has welcomed the launch of this world-class facility, which introduces eight automated e-gates — four each for arrivals and departures — enabling passengers to clear immigration in just a few seconds through biometric verification.

This facility, available free of cost to Indian passport holders and OCI card holders, allows travelers to register online at ftittp.mha.gov.in. Once registered and biometrics are submitted at the airport or FRRO office, passengers can use the e-gates for up to five years or until their passport expires. By scanning their passport and boarding pass followed by biometric authentication, travelers can avoid traditional counters and unnecessary questioning, saving up to an hour in the process.

Welcoming this development, Yogesh Kamra, Convener (India) of FlyAmritsar Initiative, said, “This is a landmark facility for Amritsar. It makes immigration clearance much faster, smoother, and stress-free for international travelers. Passengers flying to destinations like Doha, Dubai, Sharjah, Milan, Birmingham, London, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Bangkok, will benefit directly.”

From the global diaspora perspective, Sameep Singh Gumtala, Global Convener of FlyAmritsar Initiative and a resident of the USA, added: “For NRIs, including OCI card holders, and Indian passport holders with U.S. Green Cards or permanent residency of other countries, this is a major relief. Instead of waiting in long lines or being delayed by unnecessary questioning, passengers can now enjoy a seamless and world-class immigration process at Amritsar.”

The FlyAmritsar Initiative further emphasized that while this recent development is a welcome step, it is equally important that other modern passenger facilities at the airport be made fully functional without further delay. The initiative pointed out that the inline baggage screening system, already been installed at Amritsar International Airport, must be commissioned at the earliest to streamline security checks and enhance passenger convenience.

In addition, the group urged the authorities to implement the “Digi Yatra” system - a state-of-the-art, contactless biometric and facial recognition identification facility that has already been successfully introduced at several major airports across India. Bringing this service to Amritsar would not only reduce waiting times and improve the overall passenger experience for domestic travelers but also bring the airport at par with leading airports in the country in terms of technological advancement and modern amenities.
