Farmers can dispose off paddy straw using agricultural: DC Ferozepur

FEROZEPUR: Farmers can properly dispose off paddy straw without setting fire to it by using the tools recommended by the Department of Agriculture, which will not only increase the fertility of the land but also protect the environment from pollution.

This view was expressed by Deputy Commissioner Vineet Kumar during a special meeting held here today regarding burning of straw.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the Agriculture Department / Societies provide 80 percent subsidy and tools to the small and marginal farmers and no charge is levied.

He said that for the convenience of the farmers to prevent the burning of straw, Superseeder, Hepcider, Super SMS, Hydraulic reversible with high priority machinery, MB-plow machines and straw chopper / shredder / mulcher, crop reaper etc. Balers and rake machines can be used for post-field management.
Besides, the Deputy Commissioner also said that no farmer in the district should run a combine without Super SMS. He appealed to the farmers not to set fire to the straw and said that burning of straw not only causes various respiratory diseases to the people but also sometimes leads to road accidents due to the smoke of the fire. Agriculture Officer Mr. Hardev Singh was also present on the occasion.
