Asks government to apologise to media fraternity for casting aspersions

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today condemned the attempts by the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab to stop the distribution of newspapers across the state.

He demanded that the government must apologise to the media fraternity for casting aspersions on its integrity with allegations that there were inputs about black money and drugs being transported in the newspaper vehicles.

Reacting to reports of the policemen stopping the vehicles transporting newspapers and detaining them in police stations, Warring said, this has only exposed the frustration and panic in the AAP camp as it has lost the trust and confidence of people and was now resorting to such desperate steps.

He asked what purpose would the blocking of newspapers serve when people already know everything. This step has only proved how intolerant the AAP government is even when its survival is dependent on the fake publicity only.

The PCC President demanded that the government must apologise to all the media fraternity for trying to cast aspersions on their integrity.

Referring to the reported claims made by some police officials that they had inputs about drugs and black money being transported in the newspaper vehicles, Warring said, it was just an excuse to convey a message to the newspaper management that the government was capable of doing anything and everything.

“Don’t shoot the messenger and instead look within and introspect”, the PCC president advised the government saying threats and intimidations will not work anymore for the government.
