CHANDIGARH: Defence Services Welfare, Freedom Fighters and Horticulture Minister Mr. Mohinder Bhagat, on Wednesday, paid tributes to Indian Army Soldier Harminder Singh, who attained martyrdom in an encounter at Kulgam in Srinagar.
The minister, who was here to attend the bhog ceremony of the soldier held at his native village Badinpur, also laid wreath on behalf of the Punjab Government.
The Minister said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government salutes the sacrifice of martyrs and is committed to supporting their families.
He informed that the state government has announced financial aid of ₹1 crore for the family. A cheque of ₹6 lakh was handed to the family today, while the remaining ₹94 lakh will be released soon after official procedures are completed. He also announced that the martyr’s brother will be given a government job to ensure financial security for the family.
Mr. Bhagat said that the martyrdom of 28-year-old Harminder Singh has brought pride not only to his parents and villagers but also to the entire Punjab and the nation. “Martyrs are the true wealth of a country, and their sacrifice will be remembered forever, ” he added.
Expressing condolences to the martyr’s father and other family members, the Minister assured them that the Punjab Government will always stand with the family. He also announced that a memorial will be built in the village in honour of Martyr Harminder Singh.
On this occasion, Amloh MLA Gurinder Singh Gary Barring on behalf of the martyr family thanked people, who came to attend the ceremony.
At the event, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Sona Thind, SSP Shubham Agrawal, District Planning Committee Chairman Ajay Singh Libda, District Defence Services Welfare Department’s Baljinder Singh Virk, Municipal Council President Harpreet Singh Prince, along with a large number of leaders from various political parties, administrative, police and army officers and prominent citizens from villages and towns were present and paid floral tributes to the martyr.
