Amritsar citizens Urged to Avail Interest & Penalty Waiver on Pending Property Tax
AMRITSAR: Commissioner Gulpreet Singh Aulakh today convened a review meeting of the Property Tax Department to assess the performance and recovery status of both current and pending property tax collections.
It was reported during the meeting that the department has shown remarkable progress this year. As of 19th August, 2025, a total recovery of Rs. 12.64 crore has been made in the ongoing financial year 2025-2026. This includes Rs. 6.22 crore from the current year and Rs. 6.42 crore from previous years. In comparison, during the same period last year (2024-2025), only Rs. 5.51 crore was collected — indicating an impressive 129% increase in collections.
Commissioner Aulakh attributed this achievement to the Punjab Government’s One Time Settlement (OTS) Scheme, which allows citizens to pay off pending property tax without any interest or penalty. The scheme, originally scheduled to close earlier, has now been extended till 31st August, 2025.
He stated that daily tax camps are being organized for the convenience of taxpayers, significantly boosting recovery. He expressed confidence that Municipal Corporation Amritsar will exceed its previous year’s property tax collection target by 30th September, 2025.
Commissioner Aulakh appealed to all residents to make the most of the OTS scheme before 31st August, 2025, and also avail rebate benefits for the current financial year 2025-2026 by paying property tax before 30th September, 2025.
This meeting was attended by Joint Commissioner Jai Inder Singh, Assistant Commissioner Vishal Wadhawan, officers Daljit Singh, Superintendents Davinder Singh Babbar, Lovleen Sharma, Tarsem Singh, Varinder Kumar, and Jaswinder Singh.
