AMRITSAR: Due to the partition of 1947, Punjab was divided into eastern and western parts and the language of Punjabi received a set back into 2 parts.But still, the followers of the Punjabi language are showing their iron fists all over the world today. The above words were expressed today at Khalsa College of Education, during the seminar on International Mother Language Day by the Chief Guest, Pro-Chancellor of Khalsa University and Honorary Secretary of Khalsa College Governing Council, Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina.

On this occasion, Chhina said that after the partition of ’47, Punjab has shrunk due to being in many pieces. He said that through Punjabi mother tongue, we can take forward our rich culture and heritage from generation to generation and Punjabi writers are expanding and developing it by becoming the heirs of Punjabi language. We all need to be conscious of the importance of mother tongue. He said that Gurmukhi is a priceless gift of the Gurus, for the propagation and dissemination of which it is our primary duty.

Earlier, at the beginning of the program, the Registrar of the University Dr. Khushvinder Kumar welcomed the and guests Virsa Vihar Chairman Kewal Dhaliwal, Vice Chancellor of Khalsa University Dr. Mehal Singh, Academic Dean Dr. Surinder Kaur discussed the current status of the Punjabi language and the problems it is facing and presented their suggestions on the ways to deal with them. After this, Dhaliwal said that the stage is a platform through which we can create awareness about any issue in the society and touch the sensitivity of the audience.

On this occasion, the solo play ‘Bhasha Vahinda Darya’ was beautifully staged by Dr. Sompal Hira. In which he created sensitivity towards the Punjabi language in the audience by basing it on the poems related to Punjabi by Surjit Patar.
