Advance bundh breached near village Ahlikalan in Sultanpurlodhi

PHAGWARA: Advance bundh inside dhussi bundh near village Ahlikalan breached this morning flooding 36 more villages and paddy crops sown over 36 thousand acres of land according to Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal.

Seechewal told this correspondent that on Monday he and his followers along with farmers tried to strength the weak points but swollen river breached the advance bundh and also threatening the dhussi bundh .

Moreover Flood situation continues to grim as water level in Swollen Beas river rises to 1.57 lakh cusec causing damage to advance bundh and standing paddy crops sown over 66 thousand acres of land in Mand areas of Sultanpurlodhi.

Drainage Department SDO Khushwinder when contacted told this correspondent today that drainage department has increased the discharge from Harike head works to 2.26 lakh cusec from 1.88 lakh cusec today .Twenty six thousand cusec of water has been released in the canals . Beas river is now flowing at 1.57 lakh cusec at Dhilwan.

Meanwhile continuous rains for fourth consecutive day worsened the flood situation in Kapurthala, Sultanpurlodhi and Bholath as low lying areas are filled with water and trees fell on Kapurthala- Jalandhar national highway disrupting the vehicular traffic for few hours .Roof of a poor aged woman fell in Ucha Dhaura locality here due to incessant rains.

Drainage department Xen Sartaj Singh told this correspondent that it was temporary bundh raised farmers to protect their fields have breached today flooding more villages and crops
