Ranjit Gill who contested against AAP from Kharar seat was under pressure to join AAP
CHANDIGARH: Ranjit Singh Gill, a realtor and former senior leader of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) who joined the BJP late last night was today raided by Punjab Vigilance Bureau allegedly due to his refusal to join AAP after his resignation from SAD last week.
Gill was reportedly under pressure from AAP to join the party but he opted for BJP. He joined BJP yesterday evening in the presence of Haryana CM Nain Singh Saini. The realtor-turned-politician had contested the 2017 and 2022 Assembly elections from the Kharar constituency but lost to AAP’s Anmol Gagan Maan by a wide margin in 2022.
Gill had resigned from SAD in protest against appointment of outsider as Halka Incharge in Kharar. He was close confident of SAD president Sukjbir Singh Badal. Interestingly, Anmol Gagan Mann had also resigned from her seat a day before Gill submitted his papers. However, very next day she withdrew her resignation after meeting with AAP state president Aman Arora.
It is suspected that Gill had changed his decision to join AAP after Anmol Gagan Mann took back her resignation. Gill eventually joined BJP which irked the AAP leadership.. He said that this was a clear case of vendetta. Till last evening AAP was putting pressure on Gill to join AAP and this was the reason, he joined BJP abruptly late at night even informing the Punjab BJP leadership. AAP leaders were also stunned to know the develkpment. sources said.
