73rd Republic Day was celebrated with enthusiasm in three border districts Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Ferozepur

AMRITSAR: The 73rd Republic Day was celebrated with enthusiasm in three border districts Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Ferozepur on Wednesday.

Deputy Chief Minister In his emotional speech on the occasion of Republic Day, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa recalled the warriors who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the country and said that today thanks to so many heroes we are all breathing in free Fiza and India has become the largest democracy in the world.

Addressing after the flag hoisting ceremony at Guru Nanak Stadium. Randhawa said that while my country's jawans, including army, para-military force and police personnel, bravely faced every enemy from inside and outside the country, our farmers filled the country's food stocks.

He said that at one time the country had to reach out to foreign countries for food but our farmers who are only 2% of the population have brought green revolution and filled the stomachs of the people.

Recalling the freedom fighters and the jawans guarding the borders, he said that the contribution of the jawans for the independence and establishment of democracy in the country could not be forgotten. He said that with the enactment of the Indian Constitution on January 26, 1950, the Republic was established and we were proud to be the largest democracy in the world.

Meanwhile District level Republic Day was celebrated in a simple and solemn manner at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium in Ferozepur.

On the occasion Chief Guest Cabinet Minister Raj Kumar Verka hoisted the National Flag at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium. After this the Chief Guest and Deputy Commissioner and SSP inspected the parade and the national flag was saluted by various units including Punjab Police and Home Guards.
On this occasion Commissioner Ferozepur Division Daljit Singh Mangat, DIG Inderbir Singh and Commandant-116 BSF. Om Prakash was also present.

Earlier, Cabinet Minister Raj Kumar Verka, Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan and Senior Captain Ferozepur Narinder Bhargav visited the Shaheed Memorial at Dhussainiwala and paid tributes to national martyrs Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.

On this occasion Mr. Raj Kumar Verka congratulated the residents of the district on this auspicious day and also wished them all the best. He further said that the contribution of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, the framer of Indian Constitution, who gave equal rights to all the people of the country could not be ignored. With the enactment of the Indian Constitution on 26 January 1950, the Republic was established and became the largest democracy in the world.
