13 months of Yudh Nashian Virudh: Over 56000 drug smugglers arrested with 2458 Kg Heroin: Punjab DGP

CHANDIGARH: With the ongoing decisive war against drugs ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has completed 13 months, Punjab Police has registered 39, 760 first information reports (FIRs) and arrested 56, 372 drug smugglers leading to the recovery of 2458 kg heroin since March 1, 2025.

Since the launch of this anti-drug drive, Punjab Police, under the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav, has been conducting operations daily simultaneously in all the 28 Police districts of the state. Notably, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann had asked the Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendent of Police to make Punjab drug free state.

Apart from the recovery of 2458 kg haul of heroin, Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla said that police have also seized 724 kg opium, 345 quintals poppy husk, 69 kg charas, 843 kg ganja, 37 kg ICE, 51 lakh intoxicant pills/tablets, and ₹17.28 crore drug money.

On day 396, Punjab Police has arrested 86 drug smugglers arrested on Wednesday and recovered 269 grams heroin, 1000 intoxicant tablets/capsules and Rs 3050 drug money from their possession. With this, the number of total drug smugglers arrested has reached to 56, 458 in just 396 days. As part of De-addiction, the Punjab Police has convinced 21 persons to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment today.
