AMRITSAR: Hurting the sanctity of the Sikh community’s spiritual center, Sri Harmandar Sahib, a fabricated video was created by misusing Artificial Intelligence (AI) showing it as collapsing and drifting away in water. This deeply offensive and derogatory act has gravely hurt the sentiments of the Sikh Sangat.
In response, the Mumbai Police promptly registered an FIR No: 30/25 under Section 299 R/W of the Indian Penal Code and Section 67 of the IT Act and initiated proceedings.
Maharashtra Cyber Department’s Special IG Yashwi Yadav informed Sikh leaders Jaspal Singh Sidhu and Charandeep Singh Happy of this action during their meeting.
He stated that the case was registered at the Model Cyber Police Station, Mumbai, based on a complaint by local resident Gursev Singh. The Sikh leaders were assured that the investigation would be conducted impartially and that those guilty of committing this heinous act of insulting Sri Harmandar Sahib would be given strict punishment under law.
Jaspal Singh Sidhu, head of the Maharashtra Sikh Society Coordination Committee, expressed deep concern and sorrow over the growing spread of misleading AI-generated digital content on social media platforms. He said that watching this hateful video left him mentally shattered. He described it as a shameful conspiracy to trample Sikh sentiments, insult the Sikh faith, and spread hatred.
Sidhu emphasized that Sri Darbar Sahib is not merely a building, but the spiritual center and heart of Sikhism. Depicting it in a fabricated state of destruction amounts to nothing less than religious violence.
He further condemned AI-generated fake videos circulating on social media showing Bollywood celebrities partaking in langar inside the Golden Temple. He stated that such content, shared under the guise of “creative material, ” is a direct mockery and insult of seva, langar’s sanctity, and Sikh traditions. This amounts to playing with religious sentiments and, in many cases, constitutes cybercrime, hate speech, and offenses punishable under existing laws related to communal harmony.
Jaspal Singh Sidhu submitted the links and references of these objectionable videos for immediate review and action, and urged the Maharashtra Cyber Department to investigate their origin and spread. He also demanded that such content be immediately removed from social media platforms, legal action be taken, and a public advisory/guideline be issued regarding responsible use of AI-generated content related to religious symbols and sacred places.
