MOHALI: The Central Library of Rayat Bahra University celebrated National Librarians’ Day with great zeal to pay tribute to Padmashri Dr. S. R. Ranganathan widely regarded as the Father of Library Science in India, on his birth anniversary.
The event commenced with a floral tribute to Dr. Ranganathan, recalling his pioneering contributions including the Five Laws of Library Science and the Colon Classification system. The program saw enthusiastic participation from Deans, Heads of Departments, faculty members, students, and library staff. A special book exhibition and interactive sessions on digital resources were also organized to mark the occasion.
Prof. Sakshi Bahl, Librarian of the Central Library, highlighted Dr. Ranganathan’s invaluable role in shaping library science into a recognized academic discipline. She noted that his visionary approach laid the foundation of modern librarianship, elevating the profession to a place of respect in society. She also delivered an insightful lecture on the transformation of libraries in the digital era.
Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Bansal, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Rayat Bahra University, addressed the gathering and emphasized the role of libraries as evolving knowledge hubs in today’s digital age, while upholding Dr. Ranganathan’s vision of universal access to information. He congratulated the library staff for their dedication and urged them to continue their excellent work.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks, distribution of sweets, and a group photograph. The library staff reaffirmed their commitment to promoting education, research, and lifelong learning.
