LUDHIANA: The 79th Independence Day was celebrated in a very enthusiastic atmosphere at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana. Dr. Jatinder Paul Singh Gill, Vice-Chancellor, hoisted the national flag and paid homage to the freedom fighters. He remembered the patriots and heroes who had sacrificed their lives for freedom. He said that we should never forget such warriors.
In his address, Dr. Gill said that according to the National Institute Ranking Framework 2025, our university has been ranked second among all the veterinary and animal science universities in the country. He said that very important research projects are being conducted in the university, due to which many beneficial researches are being done for animal husbandry and social interest. He informed that a new Equine hospital, a new Large Animal hospital, renovation of the old hospital building, advanced feed testing laboratory and new facilities in hostels are being set up at the university very soon.
He said that the infrastructure of the institutions working outside the Ludhiana campus of the university is also being improved. He said that state of art laboratories and dedicated scientists are working at the university. A laboratory has been developed as a central laboratory in the university, where any scientist gets all the laboratory facilities under one roof for new research efforts. So far, 14 incubators have registered their names at the Veterinary and Livestock Innovation and Incubation Foundation, established at the university.
Dr. Gill also invited other entrepreneurs to join it. He said that important brainstorming discussions have been organized regarding various animal species like horses, buffaloes, sheep and goats to strengthen extension education. Close coordination has also been maintained with the different livestock organizations. Every scientific activity is being shared with the livestock farming community through Pashu Palan Melas.
He also informed that the University’s Center for One Health has been recognized as a special center by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and has been marked for providing training facilities to scientists. He also encouraged the scientists to make more efforts to get research patents.
He asked the scientists and employees of the University to contribute their best for the strength of the institution. Mentioning the academic and artistic achievements of the students, he motivated them to lead a disciplined and constructive life for the betterment of the society. Dr. Gill and the university authorities also honored the non-teaching staff for their administrative contributions, achievements and exemplary works.
After the Vice-Chancellor's address, the students musically linked the event with patriotism by presenting patriotic songs. University officials, heads of departments, employees and students participated in this event dedicated to Independence Day. The entire event was organized well-mannered under the leadership of Dr. Sarvpreet Singh Ghuman, Director Students’ Welfare.
