AMRITSAR: Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, has condemned the yet again protest by some local people against the Nagar Kirtan, which was conducted peacefully and according to religious norms by Sikhs in New Zealand.
He said that this is the second time such a thing has happened in New Zealand, which has disappointed the Sikh community.
Advocate Dhami said that it is not right to look at the religious traditions of the Sikh community, which has made an exemplary contribution to the strengthening of the world community, with a hateful attitude.
He said that Nagar Kirtan is a sacred religious tradition of Sikhism, opposing which is a challenge to the humanitarian values of Sikhism as well as to the harmony of society.
The SGPC President said that the Sikh community living in every country has always lived in harmony with the local people and has fully respected the laws and local culture of that country. Despite this, it is disappointing to deliberately prevent Sikhs from practicing their religion.
The SGPC President appealed to the New Zealand and Indian governments to take serious note of this matter and take strict action against the culprits.
