CHANDIGARH: The Centre for Public Health, Panjab University, Chandigarh, today organised a seminar on "Breastfeeding Awareness" to mark World Breastfeeding Week (1-7 August 2026). The programme was organised under the guidance of Dr Manoj Kumar, Chairperson, Centre for Public Health, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, research scholars, and students.
The seminar was conducted by Arpan Singh, Garima Parmar and Manvi(MPH Students) in accordance with the theme of World Breastfeeding Week 2026, "Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works." The programme featured informative presentations, educational videos, and interactive discussions highlighting the importance of exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of life, appropriate complementary feeding, and the long-term health benefits of breastfeeding for both mothers and infants. The sessions also focused on strengthening awareness about breastfeeding practices, improving child nutrition, and supporting healthy growth and development.
The programme was coordinated by Dr Paravreet Kaur and Ms Poonam Sharma. Participants actively engaged in the discussions and shared their views on creating a supportive environment for breastfeeding. The seminar provided a valuable platform for promoting awareness, encouraging informed health practices, and reinforcing the importance of breastfeeding in improving maternal and child health.
