Gurbani cannot be broadcasted from Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib unofficially - Advocate Dhami
Said; Action will be taken against those who re-stream Gurbani broadcasts by downloading YouTube links
Legal notice sent to GTC channel, asked to stop broadcasting Gurbani immediately
AMRITSAR: All rights regarding Gurbani broadcasting from Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib are with the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and no channel can broadcast it on its own without permission.
This was revealed by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami during a press conference held at the office here today.
He said that late last night, GTC Channel MD Mr. Rabindra Narayan posted on Facebook and wrote about broadcasting on his channel by taking a link from the official YouTube channel of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and sent a letter at 9 pm via email informing the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee about this, which is a violation of official rules.
He asked the GTC Channel to immediately stop the unauthorized Gurbani broadcasting.
Speaking to the media, the President of the Shiromani Committee said that the agreement made by the Shiromani Committee with the PTC channel regarding Gurbani broadcasting was terminated in 2023 and as per the orders of Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the Shiromani Committee started the process of creating its own channel. After several meetings of the sub-committee formed for this work, it was recommended to run a web channel and for this, various companies were contacted for preparing the setup and technical staff. They had estimated the monthly expenditure at Rs 12 lakh. Meanwhile, on July 21, 2023, in accordance with the letter received from Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib and the sentiments of the Sikh Sangat, the Shiromani Committee gave its consent to continue broadcasting Gurbani only through satellite to the PTC channel, which had expressed its commitment to bear the monthly expenditure of Rs 12 lakh for setting up the setup and technical staff, etc., while the Shiromani Committee reserved all other rights for itself.
The SGPC President said that the issue of Gurbani broadcasting is related to the sentiments of the Sangat and some people are continuously doing politics on it, which is not right. He said that it is not at all right for GTC to broadcast Gurbani on its own will without any official approval.
He said that broadcasting Gurbani without permission based on a statement without any official decision of the SGPC is not only unauthorized and unethical, it is also illegal.
He said that a legal notice is also being sent to GTC channel in this regard.
The SGPC President clarified that no one has the right to download anything from the SGPC's YouTube channel and if anyone wants to do service for the propagation of Gurbani, then they can only share it. If anyone downloads the link and restreams it, appropriate action will be taken against them.
He clarified that if any other channel sends a request for live broadcasting, then the organization can decide on it as per the rules, for this, proper rules will have to be made, but no one is free to broadcast live on their own. Because the organization runs under the rules and the matters of Gurbani broadcasting will also be considered accordingly.
Advocate Dhami said that the etiquette and traditions have to be taken care of towards Gurbani broadcasting and therefore everyone cannot be given the right.
On this occasion, Shiromani Committee members Bhai Rajinder Singh Mehta, Bawa Singh Gumanpura, OSD Satbir Singh, Secretary Balwinder Singh Kahlwan, Personal Secretary S. Shahbaz Singh, Manager of Sri Darbar Sahib Major Singh, Legal Advisor Advocate Amanbir Singh Siali and others were present.
