Guru Nanak Dev University marks International Youth Day with campaign against drug abuse, Aids
AMRITSAR: To mark International Youth Day, Guru Nanak Dev University in collaboration with the Directorate of Youth Services, Punjab, and the Punjab State AIDS Control Society organised a district-level awareness campaign on its campus. The initiative aimed at fostering healthy lifestyle choices, social responsibility, and humanitarian values among university students through a series of public awareness events.
Expressing his appreciation, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Karamjeet Singh commended the organizers and students, highlighting that engaging youth in health and social awareness drives is key to building a progressive society.
The day-long activities commenced early in the morning with a marathon race aimed at encouraging physical fitness among the youth. Cash prizes were awarded to the top three winners in both the men’s and women’s categories.
Following the run, a district-level seminar titled ‘Impacts of Drug Abuse and AIDS Awareness’ was held at the Conference Hall in Guru Nanak Bhavan. Addressing the gathering, Dean Student Welfare Dr. Satnam Singh Deol highlighted the vital role young citizens play in combating substance abuse and leading social reform. Student participants were presented with certificates of appreciation during the session.
A voluntary blood donation drive was also organised on the campus, attracting participation from a large number of student donors. The camp was attended by several dignitaries, including Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar, PUNSUP Chairman Prabhbir Singh Brar, along with Dr. Satnam Singh Deol, Dr. Harkiran Kaur, and Dr. Balbir Singh.
Commending the donors, the visiting guests emphasized that public health interventions and voluntary blood donation drives are crucial for community welfare, urging students to stay actively engaged in civic and humanitarian initiatives.
