Central Library celebrates Librarian’s Day at Rayat Bahra University
MOHALI: The Central Library of Rayat Bahra University celebrated Librarian’s Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India.
The programme was attended by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Satish Kumar, Registrar Dr. Navneet Yadav, deans, heads of departments, faculty members and students. Floral tributes were paid to Dr. Ranganathan, followed by an address by Librarian Sakshi Bahl, who highlighted his pioneering contribution to library and information science.
She spoke about his renowned Five Laws of Library Science, the Colon Classification system and his vision of libraries as dynamic centres of learning and knowledge. Dr. Ranganathan was honoured with the Padma Shri in 1957 for his contribution to library science and education.
Students actively participated in the programme, sharing reviews of their favourite books and encouraging peers to develop reading habits. The dignitaries appreciated the Library team for providing efficient services and maintaining a vibrant academic environment.
The programme concluded with distribution of sweets and group photographs. The celebration reaffirmed the vital role of libraries in promoting knowledge, research, education and lifelong learning.
