PHAGWARA: A young man died under suspicious circumstances in Kapurthala on Monday night, with initial investigations suggesting a possible drug overdose. The deceased, identified as Hanspal Singh, a resident of Jhal -Thikriwal village, was brought unconscious to the Civil Hospital by his family, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
According to hospital sources, Hanspal was brought in an unresponsive state to the emergency ward late at night. Dr. Moin Mohammad, who was on duty, conducted a medical examination and confirmed that the youth had already passed away prior to arrival.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Manjit Singh of Kotwali Police Station said the police received a call on emergency number 112 regarding the incident. A police team was immediately dispatched to the hospital, and the body was taken into custody and placed in the hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination. "Preliminary evidence points to a drug overdose as the likely cause of death, " ASI Manjit Singh stated.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of the sub-division, Deepkaran Singh confirmed the incident and said that a formal investigation is underway. “We are recording statements from the family and others close to the deceased. Further action will follow based on the post-mortem report, ” he added.
