PHAGWARA: The Kapurthala Police have registered a rape case against a man accused of sexually assaulting his sister-in-law, following a two-year-long investigation. The incident reportedly occurred in the Sultanpur Lodhi area of the district.
The victim, Surinder Kaur(not real name), had filed a written complaint with the police in 2023, alleging that her brother-in-law, Sawaran Singh, sexually exploited her. After a prolonged inquiry, police have now found sufficient evidence to register a case.
Station House Officer (SHO) Sonamdeep Kaur confirmed that a case has been filed against the accused based on the victim’s statements and supporting evidence. However, no arrests have been made so far.
According to Harvinder Kaur, she married Dalvinder Singh on January 27, 1999. The couple has two children – a 21-year-old son and a 19-year-old daughter. Her husband has been working in Dubai and visits India occasionally.
Kaur stated that since the early days of her marriage, she faced ongoing disputes with her husband and in-laws. She alleged that her brother-in-law took advantage of her vulnerable situation and sexually assaulted her.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend the accused.
