Terror Angle Emerges in Killing of Two Policemen in Gurdaspur Village; Militant Group Claims Responsibility

PUNJAB NEWS EXPRESS | February 22, 2026 07:50 PM

CHANDIGARH:  A new twist has emerged in the killing of two policemen at a police post in village Adian of Gurdaspur district, with a militant outfit claiming responsibility for the attack. The development contradicts the initial police version that the deaths were the result of a personal dispute between the two victims.

According to sources, a group identifying itself as Tehrik-e-Taliban Hindustan has claimed in a social media post that it carried out the attack on the police post, killing two personnel. The group also warned of similar attacks in the future, raising serious security concerns.

The deceased have been identified as Ashok Kumar, a Home Guard jawan, and Assistant Sub-Inspector Gurnam Singh. Their bodies were found at the police post in Adian village, located near the international border, adding to the sensitivity of the incident.

Earlier in the day, the police had suggested that the two personnel might have shot each other following a scuffle, as no clear motive had emerged during the initial investigation. However, the claim by the militant group has forced security agencies to re-examine the case from a terror angle.

Senior officials said that all aspects of the incident are now being thoroughly investigated, including the authenticity of the social media claim. Intelligence and security agencies have also been alerted, given the strategic location of the village and the potential implications of the threat.

The fresh development has posed a significant challenge for security forces, who are now assessing whether the attack was part of a larger conspiracy.
