PATTI (Tarn Taran): A 21-year-old newly married woman was critically injured after being shot at allegedly by a youth in Patti town of Tarn Taran district on Sunday.
The victim, identified as Ruby, sustained serious gunshot injuries and has been admitted to a private hospital in Amritsar, where her condition is stated to be critical.
According to police sources, the incident occurred when Ruby was riding pillion on a scooter with her husband. The accused, identified as Karan, who is reportedly a resident of the same locality, intercepted the couple on the way.
Eyewitnesses said Karan allegedly assaulted Ruby’s husband before opening fire at the woman. He reportedly fired three shots, one of which hit Ruby in the head, causing her to collapse on the spot.
In the ensuing chaos, the victim’s husband fled from the scene, while locals rushed Ruby to a nearby medical facility from where she was referred to Amritsar due to her critical condition.
Police officials said that the exact motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained. Both the accused and the victim are stated to be residents of the same colony in Patti.
A case has been registered and raids are being conducted to apprehend the accused. Police said all possible angles, including personal enmity, are being probed.
