PHAGWARA: Nearly two weeks after an armed attack outside the residence of social worker Mandeep Singh Dosanjh in Atwal Colony, police are still searching for the main accused, identified as Rahul, an NRI resident of Lakkar Mandi. Authorities say the suspect fled after firing a shot that injured Dosanjh’s associate, Sanjeev Kumar, during a confrontation .
According to police and witness accounts, the accused reportedly arrived at the house under the pretext of discussing a property purchase. After asking Dosanjh to step outside, he allegedly drew a pistol. Kumar, also known as Pandit, intervened and was injured when the firearm was discharged. He was first taken to Phillaur Civil Hospital and later referred to Ludhiana, where he is receiving treatment. Doctors have described his condition as stable.
The accused escaped from the scene with an accomplice in a black Thar vehicle. Police reviewed CCTV footage, set up checkpoints and issued a lookout circular across airports to prevent him from leaving the country. Teams have also been sent to neighbouring states as part of the search operation.
Following the incident, Dosanjh and his family say they have been living in an atmosphere of fear. He stated that the attackers were armed with foreign-made weapons and that the outcome could have been much worse. Additional security personnel have been deployed around his residence.
In response to persistent threats and the lack of an arrest, businessman Mandeep Singh Gora, who built the Attawal House, has announced a reward of ₹1 lakh for information that leads to the suspect’s capture. He said the incident has severely disrupted normal life and that the family’s safety has become the immediate priority.
Police have appealed to the public to share any credible information related to the accused or the vehicle used in the escape. Officers have assured that the investigation is ongoing and that further action will be taken once the accused is located.
