CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its drive against corruption in the state has arrested Bhivamtej Singla, Assistant Jail Superintendent, Maximum Security Jail, Nabha for accepting bribe of Rs. 10, 000.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the Jail Superintendent has been arrested following an enquiry of a complaint lodged at the Chief Minister’s Anti Corruption Action Line.
He further added that a complainant from Patran town, in district Patiala has alleged in her complaint that the said accused was harrasing her husband who was lodged at Central Jail, Nabha and demanded Rs 20, 000 as a bribe. Afterwards, the complainant had forwarded Rs 10000 as a bribe money via google pay.
The spokesperson informed that after an enquiry, the allegations levelled in the complaint were found to be true and a corruption case was registered against the said Assistant Jail Superintendent at VB police station Patiala.
The accused was absconding and his bail application was dismissed by the Punjab and Haryana high court. After his surrender in the court, he was taken into one day police remand by the VB. Further investigation into this case was under progress, he said.
