PHAGWARA: Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and BC Wing in-charge Daljit Raju has once again allegedly received a threatening phone call demanding extortion, with the latest incident adding to a series of threats reportedly received by him in the past. Despite the repeated nature of the threats and police security already provided to the AAP leader, questions are being raised over the effectiveness of the action taken by the police administration to identify and apprehend those behind the calls.
According to information available, Raju received another threatening call on Wednesday in which the caller allegedly issued threats in connection with an extortion demand. The fresh call has caused concern among his supporters and political associates, particularly as it reportedly came despite the security arrangements already put in place for him.
The latest incident is being viewed in the backdrop of previous threats received by Raju. Repeated calls of this nature have reportedly created a sense of insecurity and raised concerns over whether the persons making the threats have been identified or brought to justice. The continuation of such calls despite police protection has also raised questions about the confidence of the alleged caller, who appears to have shown little fear of law-enforcement action.
Raju has reportedly been facing threats linked to extortion for some time, making the latest call more serious from a security perspective. The repeated incidents have prompted demands that the police investigate the matter comprehensively rather than treating each threatening call as an isolated incident. Investigators would need to establish whether the calls are connected, identify the persons operating behind them and determine whether any organised criminal network is involved.
The fact that a senior political leader who has already been provided police protection continues to allegedly receive extortion threats has also become a matter of concern. Supporters have questioned how the perpetrators are managing to repeatedly contact Raju and whether the earlier complaints and investigations have resulted in any concrete breakthrough.
The latest development has therefore put the police administration under renewed scrutiny. There is an expectation that the authorities will take immediate steps to trace the caller, examine the previous threat calls and strengthen security arrangements for Raju. The police are also expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the repeated extortion demands and take appropriate legal action against those found responsible.
