Planting Trees, Preserving Tomorrow: The Road to Environmental Stability

CHANDIGARH: In a noteworthy initiative towards environmental preservation, the State Legal Services Authority (SLSA) Chandigarh, has launched a Tree Plantation Drive titled “Each Tree - A New Beginning” on the occasion of World Environment Day in Chandigarh on Tuesday. This noble campaign is being conducted under the esteemed guidance of Mr. Justice Surya Kant, Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the visionary leadership of Mr Justice Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

As part of this initiative, State Legal Services Authority (SLSA), Chandigarh commenced the plantation-cum-awareness drive and sanitation drive on dated June 5, 2025 and it was slated till July 26.

Under this campaign, a plantation-cum-awareness drive, sanitation drive, and oath-taking ceremony were conducted by the Panel Advocates and Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) of this Authority. During the two-month campaign, 8, 600 saplings were planted at multiple locations, including Legal Aid Clinics, Schools, Community Centres, Gurudwaras, Health and Wellness Centres, Community Parks and Government Dispensaries across Chandigarh. The primary objective of this drive was to raise awareness among the general public and students about various environmental issues and to encourage the preservation of our rich flora and fauna. All attendees were informed about the importance of protecting the environment and volunteers from the gatherings were entrusted with the responsibility of taking care of the planted saplings. In this way, they were motivated to contribute actively to environmental conservation. Additionally, the attendees were educated about the functioning of the Authority, including its aims and objectives.
