CHANDIGARH: The Gopa Foundation, Chandigarh, established in the sacred memory of the late Mrs. Brijinder Dargan (Gopa), former Associate Professor and Head of the Department (Botany), SGGS College, Sector 26, distributed over ₹1.5 lakh among deserving children at Guru Nanak Khalsa School, Sector 30, Chandigarh. Four meritorious students were also awarded computer tablets. Fifty-five children from various classes, along with their parents, participated in the event.
On this occasion, Dr. J.S. Dargan, President of the Foundation and Shavinder Kaur, Secretary, highlighted the inspiring legacy of the late Mrs. Brijinder Dargan (Gopa), in whose name the Foundation is registered.
He explained that the foundation's primary objective is to promote education for children from economically weaker sections. Under the chairmanship of Dr. J.S. Dargan, the foundation began operations in July 2020 with just 20 children from various economically weaker sections of society. Currently, the foundation has 128 registered children from various schools in Chandigarh and surrounding areas.
Every year, the Foundation celebrates its Foundation Day and provides financial assistance to children. The Foundation also celebrated its sixth Foundation Day today at Nagpal Super Speciality Hospital, Sector 19. Dr. Atul Sachdev, Principal Director (Gastroenterology), Max Super Speciality Hospital, Mohali, and former Director-Principal, GMC, Chandigarh, was the chief guest. Dr. Harpal Singh Dhingra, a renowned general practitioner from the UK, was the special guest. In addition, Dr. Mangala Dogra (a renowned gynecologist), Dr. Jyotsna Sachdev (a renowned pediatrician), colleagues of the late Brijinder Dargan from SGGS College, Chandigarh, and numerous dignitaries from various fields graced the event.
Mrs. Inderjeet Kaur, Vice Principal, Guru Nanak Khalsa School, Sector 30, Chandigarh appreciated the efforts of the Foundation in providing financial assistance to the needy students.
