CHANDIGARH: Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 11, Chandigarh, organised an awareness lecture on “Osteoporosis: An Epidemic of Modern Era” on August 17, 2026.The programme was organised by Jigyasa – The Science Society and NSS Units of the college, under the aegis of IQAC, in collaboration with the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI), Chandigarh Extended Region Chapter, a premier scientific academy dedicated to promoting scientific knowledge, research and science outreach.
Prof. Kuldip Kumar Bhasin, Secretary, graced the occasion. The lecture was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Vishal Kumar, Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, PGIMER, Chandigarh. Prof. Vishal Kumar sensitised students about osteoporosis, its risk factors, early diagnosis and preventive measures, highlighting the importance of calcium, vitamin D, regular exercise, healthy lifestyle and timely DXA screening for maintaining bone health.
Prof. (Dr.) Anita Kaushal, Principal and Patron, PGGCG-11, appreciated the initiative and emphasised the importance of creating awareness among students and faculty about preventive healthcare and healthy living. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Sadhana Verma, Convener, Science Society, in association with the NSS Units and members of Jigyasa.
