MIB organises special session on the Create in India Challenge at PU Chandigarh

CHANDIGARH: The School of Communication Studies, Panjab University, in collaboration with the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Chandigarh, organized a special session on the Create in India Challenge as a precursor to the first World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit (WAVES), which is being organized by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), GOI.

Emphasising on the significance of the event, Dr. Bhavneet Bhatti, Chairperson, School of Communication Studies said, “In today’s scenario, practical training is a must for holistic learning. Events like these offer students an opportunity to practically apply what they have learnt in their course and help them network with other media professionals and industry experts.”

Mr. Dheep Joy Mampilly, Joint Director, PIB, Chandigarh, was the Chief Guest on the occasion, and Vatica Chandra, Media and Communication Officer, PIB, was the guest of honour. Ms. Chandra explained the functioning of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and emphasised the special outreach programs it conducts to relay information till the rural level.

This was followed by the keynote address by Mr. Dheep Joy Mampilly, who informed the students about the Create in India Challenge, where students from all across India can participate in 27 challenges from fields such as animation, gaming, comics, film, generative AI, broadcasting, among others. "There are no aspects of life that are not affected by media and communication, ” Mr. Mampilly said, further adding that WAVES provides students and amateur content creators the opportunities to interact with mainstream professionals, thus bridging the gap between the two. His address was followed by an interactive session, where students gained insights about the importance of encouraging content creation in order to enhance India’s soft power.

Professor Archana R Singh, School of Communication Studies, also attended the session and interacted with the students.

The WAVES summit is the world’s first convergence event for the entire Media and Entertainment Sector, which is being organized in February 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
