LUDHIANA: Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized Nili Ravi Milking Competition and Kisan Mela at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) and Regional Research Centre on Buffaloes, Booh.
Dr. J.P.S. Gill, Vice-Chancellor, S. Dilbag Singh Sandhu, Chairman, Market Committee, Harike, and S. Diljit Singh Gill, President, PDFA Punjab graced the award distribution ceremony of this event. This event was organised to promote the Nili Ravi Breed improvement among the farmers.
Dr. Ravinder Singh Grewal, Director of Extension Education welcomed the dignitaries and highlighted the role of the Vet varsity towards livestock farmer welfare of Punjab. The competition aimed at identifying high milk-yielding Nili Ravi buffaloes and motivating breeders in Punjab. The buffalo owned by S. Gurlal Singh of Village Jamalpur, Tarn Taran, with a milk yield of 25.298 kg, secured first prize. Second, third, fourth and fifth prizes were awarded to buffaloes owned by S. Lakhvir Singh of Village Kohara, Ludhiana (20.665 kg), S. Bachittar Singh of Village Chima Kalan, Tarn Taran (20.184 kg), S. Amrik Singh of Village Pitho, Bathinda (19.868 kg) and Sh. Gurmimran Singh of Village Chima Kalan, Tarn Tarn (18.950 kg) respectively. The cash prizes of Rs. 51, 000/-, 31, 000/-, 21, 000/- and 5, 100/- were awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th positions respectively.
Dr. Gill highlighted that such competitions are crucial for identification and conservation of elite germplasm. S. Dilbag Singh Sandu congratulated the Vet varsity for organising this important event in a meticulous & transparent manner & assured full support from the local farmers. Dr. Grewal, congratulated the winners and informed that more competitions will be organised in the future. S. Diljit Singh Gill, President PDFA announced equivalent cash ward for the first three positions on behalf of his association. Dr. Prabjeet Singh, Deputy Director, KVK, proposed the vote of thanks.
