AMRITSAR: In a step towards promoting environmental awareness and sustainable development, Khalsa College of Engineering and Technology (KCET), Ranjit Avenue, organized a tree plantation drive. The initiative aimed to sensitize students and staff about the importance of ecological balance and to encourage active participation in conserving the environment.
Around 85 saplings viz; ornamental trees such as Kusum, Gulmohar, Amaltas, Pilkan, and Jarkanda, shade-providing several fruit-bearing plants like Amla, Anzeer, Jamun, Guava, and Orange were planted during the drive. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students, who came together with a shared vision of building a greener and healthier environment.
Director Dr. Manju Bala stated that planting a tree is not just about greening the surroundings – it is about nurturing life, ensuring sustainability, and leaving a lasting legacy for future generations. She said that such drives not only enrich the biodiversity of the campus but also contribute to future nutritional and ecological benefits. She added that such green efforts reflect the institution’s unwavering commitment to holistic development, where environmental consciousness is integrated into the educational journey.
Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, Honorary Secretary of the KCCS, also appreciated the plantation drive and emphasized the need for collective action towards environmental protection. He said that educational institutions must lead by example in nurturing values of responsibility, care for nature, and sustainable living among the youth. He expressed confidence that such initiatives would inspire students to remain connected to their roots and contribute positively to society.
