GNDU Vice Chancellor Prof. Karamjeet Singh honored Sifat Kaur Samra

AMRITSAR: Sifat Kaur Samra, a student at Guru Nanak Dev University, achieved a bronze medal in the Women’s 50M Rifle 3 Positions at the ISSF World Cup held in Munich, Germany, recently. She scored 453.1 in the final, with Norway’s Jeanette Hegg Duestad winning gold (466.9) and Switzerland’s Emely Jaeggi taking silver (464.8). Sift, accompanied by her father Pawapreet Singh, visited Guru Nanak Dev University to thank Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Karamjeet Singh. She praised the university’s new Sports Policy, implemented this sports session, which provides enhanced training facilities and resources.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Karamjeet Singh congratulated her, emphasizing GNDU’s commitment to nurturing sporting talent, and said, “Sift’s success is a testament to her hard work & commitment and the comprehensive support system we have in place at GNDU. We are proud of her accomplishments for the country and our university, and we remain committed to fostering such talent. Her shooting coach Rajvinder Kaur and Dr. Kanwar Mandeep Singh, Director of Sports of the University, who both acknowledged Sift’s dedication and GNDU’s role in her success. Prof. Palwinder Singh, Dean Academic Affairs and Prof. K.S. Chahal, Registrar also congratulated Sifat Kaur for her achievement.

Sift Kaur Samra, known for holding the world record in the Women’s 50M Rifle 3 Positions from the 2022 Asian Games, demonstrated her prowess in Munich. She scored 453.1 in the final, securing the bronze medal. The gold was won by Norway’s Jeanette Hegg Duestad with 466.9, and Switzerland’s Emely Jaeggi claimed silver with 464.8.

Sift, highlighted the university’s new Sports Policy, implemented this sports session under the visionary leadership of Prof. Dr. Karamjeet Singh, which has been instrumental in her success. This policy focuses on providing state-of-the-art training facilities, financial assistance, and expert coaching, aiming to balance academic and sporting commitments.
